Thai Garlic Chili Noodles Recipe - Passion for Food

Image
These noodles are so simple,  and yet crazily delicious! Those crispy fried shallots really bring it together in a big way. I've made this many times, I've tried it with shrimp, I've tried it with seared chicken. But honestly I think my favorite way to have it is just the noodles! The slight sweetness of the sauce is balanced out with a tiny hit of bitterness from the shallots, and you get some nice crunch from both those and the green onions. I suggest the flat thinker rice noodles, if you can find them. You should give this a try! One note, the noodles can get VERY spicy! If you don't like a tun of spice use less chili garlic sauce. The first time I made this I used 3 heaping tablespoons, so that plus the red pepper flakes made it so spicy I had to take a break half way through eating it! Thai Garlic Chili Noodles Recipe: 14-16 once of flat rice noodles 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 2 tablespoons sesame oil   1/3 cup of soy sauce 3 shallots 4 clov...

Cabbage Rolls with Caramelized Onion Gravy Recipe - Passion for Food

Image
I feel like not enough people make these just because they don't SOUND awesome. I mean, right? CABBAGE ROLLS?! Sounds kinda gross, dude. But if you trust me, you should go out on a limb and try these! You can add any flavors or types of meat you like, but the combination I used here was really tasty, and extremely savory because of the mushrooms and little bit of soy sauce rather than just salt! And the gravy is good enough to put on just about anything. Cabbage Rolls with Caramelized Onion Gravy Recipe For the filling: 1 lb ground beef (about 80/20) 1 lb ground pork (about 80/20) 1/2 large onion, grated 4-5 cloves minced garlic 1 tablespoon grated ginger 5-6 diced mushrooms of your choice 1 jalapeno pepper, diced  2 tablespoons soy sauce ~14 Napa cabbage leaves For the gravy: 1 1/2 large onions, sliced 1 cup beef stock or broth pan drippings from cooked cabbage rolls 1 1/2 tablespoons of corn starch dissolved in cold water Enjoy! ...

Easy Banana Bread Muffins Recipe

Image
These easy Banana bread muffins are quick and delicious!  I made some changes to the original recipe that really makes a big difference. I'm not usually the biggest banana bread fan, but I love these. Mainly I switched out vegetable oil for grass fed butter, and added an extra banana. Small changes can have big effects.  You are welcome to add chopped nuts to these which would be a classic move, but there is just something about the texture of nuts that have been cooked into muffins and breads I do not like so I skip it! If you watch the video you will notice I don't mention salt, woops! That is because I am using salted butter. If you use unsalted you do want to add a dash of salt to your banana-batter. Easy Banana Bread Muffins Recipe - Passion for food 1 Cup white sugar 2 Cups all purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 cup of salted butter (if unsalted add 1/4th teaspoon salt) 1 egg 4 VERY ripe large Bananas  Combine, pour into 12 sl...

Stir Fried Beef and Peppers

Image
Stir fried beef and peppers is a favorite dish of mine! And although it may be a challenge to make it properly on a flat top stove it can be done with a little trick here and there. Don't have a Wok? Rather than try and make a stir fry in a shallow pan like a 12" skillet which will have veggies trying to constantly make a break for it, try a large flat bottom pot like a stainless steel soup pot. Especially if you have a flat top stove you will actually be able to cook it faster this way. But beware! You wont be able to use the banking the veggies up the side of the wok trick to prevent over-cooking. Why not non-stick you may ask? You can kind-of-sort-of make that work, but I wouldn't and here's why! The key to any good stir fry is heat and lots of it. To get the flavor really developed you want that sear on the veggies, and you also want some caramelization forming on the pan itself sometimes called the "fond" or base. This will be base of the final sa...
